Organic Cotton clothes fashion show in India

Asif Shah, a designer from India, held an organic cotton clothes fashion show in India’s western Aurangabad district of Maharashtra on Sunday. The show was organised during the four day World Organic Conference in Aurangabad.  Designer Asif Shah, who hails from India’s central Indore city, has been working on his designs for last four months. Shah said he wants to change people’s perspective that organic cotton is unfashionable. Organic cotton is grown without use of any pesticides, which are not only harmful for the environment, but also not good for the people with sensitive skin.

Shah has designed around 50 garments from the Organic cotton, which do not look less than other designer garments made of synthetic material.  Shah’s garments have been certified by ECOCERT, an international certification agency based in France, which is working to promote the growth and use of organic cotton worldwide. International big wigs like Reebok, Adidas, Nike, Otto and others took part in the World Organic Conference. International buyers were introduced to knitted organic fabric, so that it can be used in designers wear.  Cotton textile mill owners from across the India also attended the conference. ECOCERT is also organizing seminars for the farmers in the region to promote organic farming. They are creating awareness among the farmers about the harmful effects of using pesticides on the crop. Organic cotton is rapidly getting popular among the environment conscious people across the world. A small section of farmers in US are also growing organic cotton in US.
