Cotton Industry
The market for cotton shirts has increased. In Europe, particularly in the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden and also in Japan the sale of cotton shirts have doubled. Cotton tees have a huge fashiobale market that caters to people of all ages. Since cotton is a preferred fabric research ahs been done to develop even wrinkle free and iron free shirts. It is because cotton shirts have the ability of absorbing sweat and breath, they are worn. Otherwise fabrics like polyester would have dominated the clothing trends. Some consumers might argue that when the fabric is wrinkle free it will be treated with chemicals. Will it be harmful to the consumer or the environment? To understand this it is better to have a backhand knowledge of the process.
The wrinkle resistant in cotton shirts is form a curing process. Yes it is done chemically. But in no way ruins the fabric. The processes involved are pre-curing, post curing, dip-spin and vapour phase. The fabric looses some ability to hold moisture (i.e sweat). In Germany pre-cured fabrics are common. It is not a win-win situation. In Asia the dip-spin method is more common. The cotton shirts are first manufactured and then are treated. All creases are sorted out perfectly and are eternal. There is no need to iron. Perhaps it is for the consumer to decide eventually which cotton shirts are preferable. They will decide their comfort level and buy depending on the various climatic conditions of the place they live in.
