Will American Cotton Last Long?

It is well known that Indian and Egyptian cotton and now China leads its production. It is one of the world’s best for comfort and durability. American cotton produced in southern states is also good. There are historical references of it being produced in 15th century in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Then two centuries later Eli Whitney made the cotton gin that increased the production in the country. The slaves of the south produced the American cotton for the British soldiers at one time. Later the British diverted their attention to Indian cotton that was much softer. In America it was called King Cotton. Till today the southern states continue to produce American cotton.

Cotton has been such a versatile fabric that it has helped many nations to prosper. Even in America there is employment thanks to the cotton industry. The consumption of this fabric in many industries has made the country also look at other countries for export. The fashion industry, textiles, arts use American cotton in various ways. But recently the production has become slow and the number of acres where cotton is being produced is dwindling. Natural and economic factors are responsible for this situation. Of course it will increase the price of the fabric and consumers will be forced to chose form other fabrics too. Fashion designers have already cut down on their expenses for the new collections. This is to ensure that cotton still remains the most affordable fabric for the masses.
